Centre de biologie expérimentale (Biological Research Centre)

Reporting to the INRS Scientific Department, the Centre de biologie expérimentale (CBE) is located on the campus of the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier research centre in Laval. The Centre provides opportunities for contractual and industry-sponsored research partnering through its animal research facilities. The scientific and pharmaceutical communities can use its experimental animal services in their efforts to develop and control active molecules in living organisms.

The Centre offers its partners a range of experimentation directed at improving the quality of life and the environment:

  • carcinogenesis studies and anticancer drug evaluations
  • antibacterial and antiviral drug evaluations
  • vaccine trials
  • innocuity tests
  • evaluation of drugs for pharmaceutical and veterinary use
  • studies on pathogenic micro-organisms harmful to humans and animals
  • polyclonal and monoclonal antibody production
  • evaluation and development of diagnostic tests for viral and bacterial diseases
  • development and utilization of animal models for scientific research needs.

The pavilion exceeds current animal regulations standards. With its modern concept and enriched animal environment, it stands alone in North America. The modus operandi of the pavilion complies with international standards, including Laboratory Best Practices (see SCC, OECD, FDA-ORA Bioresearch Monitoring, EPA-OECA SOPs). As a result, experimental results are consistently recognized by national and international agencies for biological products control.

The excellent care and judicious use of laboratory animals has won recognition from:

The Centre de biologie expérimentale is a member of:

Occupying 5,410 square metres, the pavilion offers 51 accommodation rooms. It was designed to handle all types of experimentation on a large number of living organisms, including primates. The modular concept also allows multiple confinement levels (CL1 – CL2). The pavilion offers safe working conditions for its staff and is fully compliant with the environmental laws in force.

In addition to benefiting from the scientific quality and expertise in research and training at the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier research centre in the areas of immunity, infectious diseases, cancer, toxicology, biotechnology and molecular pharmacochemistry, users have access to top-notch facilities and the considerable tax advantages enjoyed by companies based in Québec and Canada.

The Centre is located at the heart of City of Biotechnology and Human Health of Metropolitan Montreal, conveniently close to the Laval Science and High Technology Park.
